This is a story of friendship, loyalty, greed, and betrayal. The storytelling and writing in the film are brilliant, and the dialogue between characters is engaging. The amazing performances of Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield had viewers attached to these characters and elevated the whole film.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
This Tarantino film is unanimously regarded as a masterpiece. Like a typical Tarantino film, Inglourious Basterds has just the right amount of violence and profanity. The film also features a lot of memorable scenes, such as the opening scene with Hans Landa and the Nazi tavern scene.
The Departed (2006)
The Departed is about an undercover cop and a mole who try to identify each other. The film’s intricate plot is filled with twists and turns that keep the audience on the edge of their seats. The superb writing makes character interactions and dialogues unforgettable.
Inception (2010)
This mind-bending spectacle sparked a lot of debates when it first came out. The movie’s intricate plot and expert storytelling create an engaging and thought-provoking experience. Hans Zimmer’s beautiful score also enhances the entire experience.
Get Out (2017)
This is Jordan Peele’s directorial debut, and it’s absolutely perfect. The film uses horror to convey societal fears and anxieties, aided by a unique storyline—the performances in the film aid in creating tense and suspenseful moments. Get Out remains one of my favorite horror movies.
No Country for Old Men (2007)
The masterful direction of the Coen brothers made this film what it is. Their exceptional storytelling style helps create a suspenseful and intense atmosphere. Viewers are also given free rein to interpret the film in diverse ways. No Country for Old Men is undoubtedly one of the greatest Western movies of all time.
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
The film follows the action-packed alliance between Imperator Furiosa and Max as they plan a daring escape across the desert lands. The action scenes are lightning-fast but perfectly orchestrated, making for an exhilarating experience for viewers.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
The previous Spider-Man installment was very good, but this 2023 sequel proved to be a whole lot better. The animation is unlike any other and takes the franchise to another level. Every aspect of the movie is perfect—the storytelling, the music, and the climax.
Whiplash (2014)
Whiplash features one of the best performances of Miles Teller and J. K. Simmons. The film captures the insane obsession necessary to achieve greatness. The cinematography and editing in the film are just so beautiful.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
For devout Marvel fans, No Way Home was the best gift they got since Endgame. The film introduces some much-needed growth for the MCU’s Spider-Man as he loses people and gains new allies. The inclusion of Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and other Spider-Man villains made the theater experience absolutely electric.
Parasite (2019)
Bong Joon-Ho made history when Parasite became the first foreign-language film to win Best Picture at the Oscars. The film probes questions of inequality, class, manners, and the lengths people will go to in order to keep hold of what they believe ought to be theirs.
Interstellar (2014)
Interstellar is a sci-fi masterpiece by the great Christopher Nolan. The visuals are breathtaking, and its unique soundtrack makes the viewing experience transcendent. The film is also appreciated for its commitment to scientific accuracy.
Spirited Away (2001)
Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away is probably the best animated film of the 21st century. The film has an enchanting storyline that transports viewers to another realm. The animation showcases the artistry and attention to detail of Studio Ghibli and has had a huge influence on the animation industry. Notably, Hayao Miyazaki has another film coming out in December.
Your Name. (2016)
This is another Japanese animation, and it’s because they’re just that good! Your Name.
is an absolutely beautiful film that follows two teenagers who find out that they’re switching bodies. The phenomenal score, animation style, and storyline will grab your attention and heart in ways that will make this movie unforgettable.
Gladiator (2000)
Starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix, Gladiator is one of the best historical films of the 21st century. It tells the tale of Maximus, a betrayed Roman general seeking revenge and redemption. It features spectacular performances from the cast and thrilling action sequences.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Peter Jackson really outdid himself with this one. In the final installment of the franchise, we get a fantastic conclusion and the grand battle for Middle-earth that has fans calling it the best film in the series. The large-scale battles and spectacular visuals make it one of the best films of the century.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight is easily one of the best superhero movies. The film features amazing action sequences, from the Joker’s bank heist to that epic chase scene through Gotham. The combination of Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne and Heath Ledger’s enigmatic portrayal of the Joker redefined the superhero genre.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
I love this film for how chaotic and nonsensical it seems on the surface, but that it has so much emotional depth that resonates with viewers. The film’s visual effects and costumes are stunning and incredible. The film dominated the last award season, becoming the most awarded film of all time.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Just when all hope seems lost, the heroes band together to bring half of the world back. The film takes us on fun adventures and a rollercoaster of emotions. Watching all the heroes in the MCU band together for the final battle against Thanos was a truly memorable cinematic moment.
There Will Be Blood (2007)
There Will Be Blood is a hypnotic, poetic, and downright prophetic deep-dive into the pipelines of American capitalism and corporate greed. The cinematography and score create a haunting and immersive atmosphere that enhances the viewing experience. Daniel Day-Lewis’s standout performance as Daniel Plainview makes the film one of the best you’ll ever come across.
